FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROMISES INCREASED POWER GENERATION OF UP TO 8,000MW

The Federal Government of Nigeria has set increased targets for electricity generation and distribution by the end of 2026 and 2027.

Speaking during the launch of the Renewable Energy Assets Management Company in Abuja, Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe disclosed that the target is to generate up to 6,500MW by the end of 2026, and up to 8,000MW by 2027.

The Minister acknowledged that Nigerians had lived without adequate electricity over the years despite its abundant power assets. He noted that it is worrisome that the country is still struggling to wheel about 5,000MW

He assured Nigerians that there will come a time when there will be electricity supply 24/7 to citizens, and also enough to cater for the increasing needs of the AI data centres.

Speaking about the newly launched RAMCO, the minister said it offers a new model and a new paradigm, adding that its mandate will stretch beyonf renewable energy to the entire elecetricity grid.
