32 Feared Dead As Military Aircraft Crashes in Ondo

As many as 32 members onboard a Nigerian Military ATR-42 aircraftf are feared dead after it crashed near the Naval Base in Igbokoda, Ondo State, while travelling from Benin to Lagos on Monday.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, while confirming the development, said there were 25 passengers and seven crew members onboard the aircraft.

The Minister reported on his official X handle that Air Traffic Controllers informed him that the military aircraft, with registration number, NGR 931 which was travelling from Benin to Lagos, disappeared from its radar.

The Minster aslo stated that the Aviation Ministry has no regulatory controll over Military aircraft, but promised to offer support in the ongoing rescue mission.

He said “Whilst the control and regulation of military aircraft are completely outside the authority of the Ministry of Aviation, and Civil Aviation Authority, I have just spoken to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke and pledged our total cooperation and assistance in the search and rescue efforts ongoing,”
