The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a donation of N250 million to families of the 37 illegal artisan miners who died in detention in Niger State under the custody of the NSCDC.
Vice President Kashim Shettima made the announcement during a visit to Niger State to commiserate with the government and people of the state. He assured the families of the 37 artisan miners and the people of Niger State that the Federal Government will not rest until those responsible for their deaths are brought to book.
Kashim Shettima who represented President Bola Tinubu said the donation was intended to cushion the hardship being experienced by the bereaved families, as no amount could compensate the lives lost.
The Federal Government had earlier constituted a 10 man committee Chaired by Jonathan Kure, a retired Deputy Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the mysterious death of 37 artisan minners who died in custody of the NSCDC during an operation to clamp down on illegal minning in the state.
